D-Day (delivery day) occurred on June 5th, 2010 and the two of us got to make our grand appearance. We both came out crying loud and strong, full of energy, and ready to tackle the world!
Despite the strong temptation to name us Megatron and Awesome-Sauce, Mom and Dad named us Matthew and Nathan. Both are Hebrew names meaning "Gift of the Lord"/"God has given" which is exactly what we are...precious little miracles sent from God.
Matthew (Thing 1) was still breech on D-Day and was born feet first (just like his uncle Matt was). He was born at high noon, weighed 5 pounds, 2 ounces, and was 17.7 inches long. Here I am right after birth:
Here's Matthew in the NICU, an hour and a half after the birth:
Matthew was so hungry once he got to the NICU. He kept trying to eat his hand!
No one quite knew what position Nathan (Thing 2) would be in at birth since he kept moving from spot to spot. He was born head first a minute later at 12:01 pm, weighed 3 pounds, 13.5 ounces, and was 16.1 inches long. Here I am, right after birth (note the resemblance to my 3D Ultrasound picture):
So far, we're both doing great in the NICU. We're breathing just fine on our own, eating from a bottle, and already have our IVs removed, too! Mom's recovery has been a bit trickier as her blood pressure and blood work continues to jump around, but she is feeling good and hopes to come visit us upstairs soon.
It really was time for us to be delivered. Mom started having contractions every 2 to 8 minutes the night before the surgery as if her body was saying, "Time to get these kiddos out!" Also, with Thing 2 being born at just under 4 pounds (the same weight he was estimated to be at a week and a half ago), it looks like he just wasn't able to get what he needed from inside the womb anymore. Thank God for wise doctors.
