October 2010

The northeast sure is a beautiful place to spend our first fall! Mommy picked all 5 of these leaves off of our maple tree in one day! How beautiful!Honestly, the past 6 weeks have been challenging. The Fall semester started up and Daddy went back to work full time. Mommy is on maternity leave this semester and stays home with us (although she goes in on Wednesday afternoons to interact with adults...well...undergrads...). On Mondays and Fridays, Grammie and Papa come to our house to help Mommy, and on Tuesdays and Thursdays, we all go to their house. And although we are definitely sleeping better at night(sometimes going 9 or 10 hours between feedings), the days can be quite rough. We're awake more during the day now and more demanding of one-on-one attention. And with a "big" sister who just turned 2, that means a lot of frazzled caregivers. They try to make sure that there are always 2 adults with the 3 of us at all times, but even then, the adults are left playing zone defense (which doesn't work too well when we all love to be held). Mommy has become more resourceful through it all, though. One day, she managed to pick up a pacifier off of the floor with her foot and put it into Matthew's mouth while holding Nathan and feeding him a bottle. She is officially SuperMom!

With all of the chaos, Daddy decided to call in some back-up! Gram to the Rescue!
Gram with Nathan:Gram with Matthew:
"I know, Gram. I don't know what they're talking about either. We're always like this!"Our dear friends from church decided to throw us a baby shower to celebrate...well...US! Mom and Dad got some useful things (including some delicious meals, baby clothes, paper plates, and diapers) and we got to snuggle ALL NIGHT LONG! (Did we mention how much we crave/adore/demand the one-on-one attention?!?)
A snuggle for Matthew: And a snuggle for Nathan:A cuddle for Matthew: And a cuddle for Nathan: One more for Matthew: And one more for Nathan: Now that we're awake more, we've really been working on developing our motor skills.

Stretch! Our jungle provides us with tons of exercise (and entertainment!)
Nathan wiggled himself right out of the jungle and into the desert! We also like playing in this tunnel! Wait...that IS two babies, isn't it?We're getting better with using our hands. We haven't managed to get the Nuks into our mouths yet, but we sure are good at holding on to them (as Matthew demonstrates)! We're also getting better at sitting up with some support. Here's Nathan:and Matthew:

Matthew is even happier than Elmo!Let's work on standing! 1...2...3...Stand UP! Stand UP for Jesus! After all that exercise, we like to rest a bit in our swings. Matthew in one swing:And Nathan in another: Beary cute!
And then there's tummy time! Kaira hated it. We, well...tolerate it.
Good job, Matthew! We've been sleeping better at nights, but we're pretty good at sleeping almost anywhere. On the couch, the floor, the boppy, or our favorite place: in someone's arms!Last week (Oct 23rd), we slept in our own cribs! It was the first time since the NICU and although we were sad to be apart (although still in the same room), it was nice to get to spread out."Ooh, a new mobile, too!" says Nathan.
"I'm not so sure about this." says Matthew. It wouldn't be the fall without football...right, Papa? Our Papa got us these adorable outfits so we could watch the games with him on Sunday afternoons and cheer on our team! GO VIKINGS!

Nathan: Matthew: Kaira is the head of our cheerleading squad: Go, team, go! We can't take our eyes off the game! And last but not least, some more snuggle pictures. Did we mention that we love the one-on-one attention?
